The History of the General Staff
Abstract
The construction of the identity of the General Staff (EMG) of the Military Police is based on the “to serve and protect” characteristic of the daily activities of the military police, as established in articles 42 and 144, § 5º and 6º of the 1988 Constitution, considering that all activities of the Ostensive Police and preservation of Public Order are part of the set of constitutional attributions worked as doctrine by the EMG. Therefore, it is important to highlight other moments in which the General Staff was present throughout the process of social changes attested by historical sources that present part of the actions of the Pará troops. History and memory strengthen the social identity of the General Staff, reorganized in 2014, while presenting an explanation focused on the present time, but which interacts closely with the construction of a military past related to the history of the State of Pará.
This nomenclature General Staff accompanies the military of our state in various “spaces-times”, and shows a social trajectory strongly based on the context of the 19th century and the experiences of the Pará troops. This historicity solidified the creation of a sector that helps the commander of the Corporation to make decisions throughout the 19th and 20th centuries.
In this way, it is possible to understand the EMG as a legal construction in the 21st century, however, it is necessary to highlight a past resulting from the experiences of military police officers within the scope of social changes that value research on the strategic performance of this sector of the Pará military Corporation in the Amazon region.
