The History of the Military Police
Historical aspects of the oldest PMPA unit: Cavalry
Abstract
The Military Police of Pará, created as a Police Corps in 1818 by the 7th Count of Villa Flor, Antônio José de Souza Manuel de Menezes Sevarin de Noronha (CHARLET, 2021, p. 8), has among its oldest operational units the “Cassulo de Melo” Mounted Police Regiment (RPMot), created at the regimental level on February 3, 1994, having existed for 28 years, but which dates back to the colonial period, preceding, in this sense, the creation of the Police Corps.
The history of the relations between the cavalry and the police force, the memory of the location of the horse troop facilities, the brief biography of the patrons of this equestrian troop and some elements that demarcate the continuity of the state cavalry over many years are the objective of this report, therefore not exhausting the richness of details of this secular trajectory.
