The History of the Military Police
Abstract
The starting point in the history of the Military Police of Pará is the year 1818, when the 7th Count of Villa Flor, the Portuguese nobleman Antônio José de Sousa Manuel de Menezes Severim de Noronha, sworn in as governor of Pará, by act of Dom João VI, decided to create the Police Corps.
The military historian Antônio Ladislau Monteiro Baena recorded in the booklet Compêndio das Eras da Província do Pará, published in 1839, reissued by UFPA in 1969, that in that year, the Count of Villa Flor.
