Abstract

By means of Decree No. 1,683 of June 6, 1935, Governor José C. da Gama Malcher reorganized the State Military Police, which became comprised of a General Command, a General Staff, a Hunters Battalion, and a Cavalry Corps.

On June 20, 1974, Law No. 4,521 defined the General Staff as the general management body responsible, before the General Commander, for the study, planning, coordination, supervision, and control of all activities of the Corporation. The General Staff consisted of the Chief of Staff, the Deputy Chief of Staff, and 6 (six) Sections. The Chief of Staff also served as Deputy Commander of the Corporation and substituted for the General Commander in the event of his/her absence.
