Abstract

The history of the Military Police of Pará begins in the first half of the 19th century, with the creation of the Police Corps in 1818 by the then Captain General and Governor of Grão-Pará, Dom Antônio José de Souza Manuel de Meneses Sevarim de Noronha, the Count of Vila Flor. Documents indicate that the creation took place “on March 10, 1818”, without mentioning a specific date from then on.

Today, the Military Police of Pará is one of the oldest in Brazil and its missions are ostensive policing and the preservation of public order.
