Ethical aspects in social research: a look at criminal studies in Mozambique.

Abstract

This article discusses ethical aspects in social research contextualized for criminal studies in Mozambique, based on the principle that the development of any study must prioritize the observance of ethical aspects. In the preparation of this article, the technique of bibliographic review was privileged, complemented by the experience lived by the author during the preparation of his PhD thesis project in Development and Society. It was observed that criminal studies developed in the Mozambican context do not undergo an ethical evaluation, and this weakness is due to the absence of a specific committee for this purpose. Such studies do little to promote the privacy and anonymity of research subjects. Thus, it is understood that the ethical challenge in criminal studies necessarily involves overcoming ethical informality to formal ethics, based on the creation of a specialized Research Ethics Committee, as well as the introduction of these subjects in higher education curricula.
