Interview with Senator Jader Barbalho.
Abstract
Jader Fontenelle Barbalho is a lawyer and Senator of the Republic. He began his electoral career as a councilor (1968-1970) and then became president of the Municipal Executive of the MDB of Belém, in 1967. He held the positions of State Deputy (1971-1974), Federal Deputy (1975-1982; 2003-2010), Governor (1983-1987; 1991-1994) and Senator (1995-2001; 2011-2018). Since 1982 he has been president of the Regional Directory of the PMDB of Pará and of the National Directory of the PMDB, where he was president (1998-2001). He went on to hold prominent national positions for the party: Minister of Agrarian Reform and Development (1987-1988) and of Social Security and Assistance (1988-1990); in the Senate, he was leader of the PMDB (1995-2001) and president (2001). In 2018, he was elected Senator for the third time. He received us at the RBA Meeting Room, in Belém, on June 7, 2023, for a 2h52min interview.
