Profile of domestic violence against women living in the municipality of Belém – Pará – Brazil

Importance of the Study: Gender-based violence is the most inhumane manifestation of inequality between the sexes; domestic violence occurs within the family, in the relationships of members of the family community, formed by natural or civil kinship ties, by affinity or affection. Objective: To present the profile of domestic violence against women living in the city of Belém, Pará, Brazil. Materials and Methods: The research is quantitative, exploratory and descriptive, where quantitative research is a type of research composed of variables quantified in numbers, exploratory research is used in cases where greater precision is necessary to define the problem, and descriptive research aims to describe the characteristics of a given population or phenomenon. Results: Of the women victims of domestic violence in Belém, the majority suffer from psychological violence, followed by physical violence. The majority are between 35 and 64 years old, have a maximum education level of high school, are housewives and are single. Regarding violence, the majority of cases occurred on weekends, at night and in the Guamá neighborhood. As for the aggressor, the majority are between 35 and 64 years old and are the victim's partner. Conclusion: The research made it possible to observe that the data on domestic violence are alarming; therefore, public policies are needed to guarantee the safety of these victims, and to provide greater information about specialized police stations and their protective measures.
