Covid-19: a laboratory for understanding the patterns of action of police forces.

This article characterizes and considers the actions of the police in combating the pandemic caused by Covid-19 in Portugal. Its initial hypothesis is that preventive actions, in the health crisis, would be prioritized as opposed to coercive actions, considering that the corporations would adopt the community policing model of action, implemented since 2007. The results obtained through the application of a comprehensive analysis model contradict the initial hypothesis by demonstrating that the police forces prioritized coercive actions during the period of management of the pandemic crisis in the form of inspection actions and the application of administrative offense reports to the detriment of awareness-raising actions for the adoption of safe behaviors.
